Orphicart, thats EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME! Im so sorry YOU had to go through that. I went to the emergency room because i couldn't hold down water and my mum reckons the doctors thought i was anorexic too. She had to explain the whole thing and tell them about all the tests i'd been having before they took me seriously. I personally don't really remember i was concentrating too hard on not puking. People seem to get it when they're young, im 19 and the doctors told me about a 20 year old guy who had aparently just been discharged when i arrived. He also nearly had his bowels removed. Everyone i talk to seems to know someone with crohns so its surprising that it would have to get to the emergency room stage before it gets diagnosed. I can't beleive that doctor told you to ''go home and eat" thats truly disgusting. Eating is awesome. I gained 10kgs in a month i was so thrilled to be able to eat again.
I can totally relate to the stabbing lava knife pain and i wish that noone else would have to go through that. Especially for so long. Thank you so much for all the information you have given me i am truly grateful.
I havn't yet noticed that i bruise easily but i do have issues with being in the sun, although i always did being a redhead.
I found out how hardcore azathioprene really was when i was watching a program about organ transplants on tv a while ago, not surprisingly the doctors didn't tell me all those gory details.

acidic Ape, blame your girfriend for telling me about the forum. I knew as soon as i read it that i wasn't supposed to, so i had to reply of course just to embarass you. Hahaha now i know your secret. YOUR NICE!!. It really wasn't out of line at all, in fact it was rediculously sweet and caring of you. However good luck with your plan!! im getting a lock on my door, i won't have anti meat messages disrupting my sleep!

hey Alex howzit going. yep this is Mel E_n's friend, i definitely will be avoiding prednisone. I remember several nights being awake until 5am, the gigantic ankles, pimples, mood swings, general crazyness. Not good. You take care also.

I have been on prednisone before, and while it did wonders for the skin condition I was taking it for... boy did I suffer. Mood swings, deep holes, digestive problems ...
Avoid. And take care.

PS, have fun in Cuba Apeman.

Ahhahaha. I didn't think you would see this thread Mel, You're not supposed to know I'm nice.
Well I'm glad you have partaken and I hope it wasn't out of line of me. I also hope that there isn't too much stuff here for you. And CURSES! Now you know my sadistic plan to slowly ween you of meat. Alas, I'll have to switch to playing messages to you in your sleep.

And more thanks to the rest of you. I guess you can give Mel info directly now as opposed to my middle man like duties.

Enjoy.

First time forum reader, first time forum writer, first time subject of forum.
I can't thank you all enough for your time and advice, especially you 'acidic ape' you could quite possibly be the best future flatmate ever!
You have all given me very interesting and useful advice which I will be researching further, but i really don't know where to start!

I have a lot to say and im not quite sure how to say it so i'll just spout it all out and hopefully i don't miss too much.

I first noticed something wrong in August of last year, started getting tests in September. It wasn't until I was hospitalised in November 13kgs lighter & half dead(i wasn't exactly beefy to start with) that they figured out what was wrong. The amount of pain i went through before that was ridiculous. However my health declined very fast and the medical professionals were testing for relatively un-serious things like celiacs disease, they didn't realise the urgency. I was on a hefty dose of prednisone which they kept me on for a month. I totally agree with you Orphicart it is the steroid from hell i felt completely unbalanced while i was on it and found myself dreaming about giant hamburgers at 3am due to the extreme hunger. That alone didn't work so i was pumped full of Infliximab(a very experimental and new drug) a couple of times which seemed to do the trick.
They now permanently have me on Azathioprene, which i found out is derived from mustard gas. Hmmm im not so sure about that one. I would be interested to know if they had you taking azathioprene, Orphicart
Since i was released from hospital i havn't had any symptoms or pain but i am aware that i will have flare ups in the future so i am extremely grateful for all your information and will be taking some of your advice. Yes acidic ape i will try green tea, you won't have to do much convincing.
I have been told that crohns disease is an immune system disorder, for some reason the immune system basically decides to attack the bowels. It is still being researched and ive found that not much is actually known about it.

I also beleive the mind and body are directly related, i realised why i got this disease while i was in hospital and I don't think the reasons were physical at all. I really needed the wake up call actually, Im still learning how to be more in touch with myself so it took near death to wake me up and get some direction. rest assured i have learnt and feel a whole lot better, even with crohns disease.
Modern medicine did play a part in my recovery but it did focus entirely on the body, the rest was largely ignored. i beleive my determination and positive attitude also played a part, nothing makes you go down hill faster than being all mopey. I really don't agree with the "why me" attitude so many people have, and for some reason expected me to have.

It all is a little intimidating but i will definitely start with green tea. I really don't think i'll be getting into vegetarianism any time soon though, i'm a huge fan of meat. that will take a LOT of convincing. However im always willing to try somethin new and i am definitely interested in all kinds of alternative medicine. The "mustard gas"seems to be working extremely well for now but i'm really not too comfortable with taking something that potent, the doctors told me to wash my hands THOROUGHLY after touching it and to flush the loo twice. It has few side effects but i do wonder about the long term effects, especially on my immune system and my succeptability to illness. it can also cause osteoperosis so I have to have regular bone scans and blood tests (eeeek! needles!) so i will be adding calcium supplements to the mix depending on my results.

Thank you all so much, I wish you all the best

I have personally seen conclusive results myself treating animals. So, I would consider her work strongly.
As far as your friend is concerned, if she could take something as simple as cinnamon bark she would improve greatly, possibly. Meaning, I don't know the full situation. However, I know an older lady who has strongly believed in herbs as long as I have known her, but her husband poo-pooed them. She couldn't get him to take so much as a vitamin until his diabetes and blood pressure got bad enough and the doctor's meds weren't helping. Namely insulin and blood thinners. Then one day she got him to start taking cinnamon bark and he has been off the meds since. I might add, it did not take hardly anytime to see worthy results.
My condolences for your father's passing.

Matthew
p.s. Oh, and for all folks concerned proteolytic enzymes are wonderful alternative to steroids. Check out Wobenzyme and/or the like.

I've heard they were nasty but as unaware that they were that bad.

And well green tea rocks anyway. I love the stuff. My parents brought back a whole lot from China and it's so good, sure beats the cheap little bags I'm used to. So I'll try and push.... well convince her into drinking a bit more of that. Green tea and Ginger is especially good. So many people have a thing against green tea though. Strangeness.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend Mavis, I hope your presence help open her eye to other ways.

I will start filtering some of this stuff down.
I intend to put together a bit of "light reading" on all these cleansing goods and dietary habits. A starting point for her. I don't wish to blast her away with more infomation than one can process, So I think maybe I'll just start giving her some names.

Thank you all so much again.
That bit about Cows and dairy is some what frightning. Times like this I go, "Yeah... See... Go the vegetarianism". I'm a vegetarian, obviously after that last coment, and shall be living with her next year so I hope to be able to play a subtle infulence upon her own diet. We'll see.

I shall get straight onto this. If anyone has any more info in the back of their skull muscle please post it if you can.

Have fun and enjoy.

I have no experience with Crohn's disease, but recently I was reading "The Cure for All Diseases" by Dr. Hulda Clark which mentioned something about it. I'm not sure if you're familiar with her work, but it might contain some helpful information for your friend. This is what she says about Crohn's disease in this book:

Crohn's Disease

is somewhat more serious because the sores are higher up in
the digestive tract. This is because sheep liver fluke and pancreatic
fluke are commonly the main parasites and these live in the
pancreas and liver. They often spill over into the upper
intestine. Salmonella and Shigella are always part of the picture,
too, as are various amoebae and fungi. The treatment is the
same, kill all parasites and remove all pollutants, especially
wood alcohol in commercial beverages. Healing of the digestive
tract is very quick, often in a week. Reinfection is very quick
too, if the rule about cooking dairy foods is not observed. Keep
up meticulous hand sanitation.

I've omitted the case histories for brevity. If you're interested in reading more, I believe the book is still under the NR files section. Maybe this will help, maybe not...

Good luck!
