Why is the ADL so militant about asserting the 6 million number

To make it apear that they have suffered more than anyone else in History. Even if there was 6 million kiled that was around 10% of the total killed in WW2. There are still 1 million holocaust survivors alive today, 3.8 million claimed reparations after the war, hundreds of thousand fled to other countries. Considering there was only around 6 million Jews in German occupied Europe, the figures somehow do not add up.

You should do a google for Ernst Zundel, a Canadian who is currently on trial in Germany for trying to tell the truth of the Holocaust.

Did you know that Trotsky, Marx and Engels were Jewish, also Jacob Schiff and the Rothschilds. who financed the Bolshevik Revolution. 60 million Russians and East Europeans were killed by the communists, 70 million Chinese, maybe these could be more correctly called holocausts. How many people have heard about the Gulag Archipeligo? whilst we are continually reminded of Auschwitz.

jezreel - do yourself a favour and compare the population groups you are talking about.You cannot draw direct comparisons by virtue of the numbers:the jewish population,even back then, was infinitly smaller than the population groups you mention.Your comment of "to make it appear that they have suffered more than anyone else in history" belies your prejudice.
Do you know how many times in history(since you SEEM to have some historical knowledge of sorts) the jews have been targeted via attempted extermination policies of various governments/monarchy's of the day?
You would be well advised to go back and actually read your history text-books.Nazi Germany was only ONE of the occasions in question.

i wonder why an individual would risk imprisonment or worse to challenge what has been accepted history unless he had good reason. i can understand why israel would take any drastic measure to protect their version of history, and what they have to gain from it. so my money is on the holocaust-deniers.

Couple things that have been bugging me lately.

Holocaust denial seems to be a trendy belief these days. Why? In John Ronson's book Them, he goes into alot of detail about how Antidefamation League people believe that alot of conspiracy theorists and extremists use words like illuminatti, reptillians, greys, etc. as code for jew. Really kind of interesting and makes me wonder.

Holocaust denial can get you thrown into jail in many countries. Why? This seems archaic, that you can actually be thrown in jail for a belief.

It seems to me like total ignorance- there is so much proof to support the holocaust that it makes me sick. All the photos, the movies, the books, television programs, etc. But all the denial I've read and heard about lately makes me wonder what these people are using as a basis for their belief.

Is this true, partially true, or a complete coverup? Is this book the root of the holocaust, naziism and modern antisemitism? Anyone know where I can read about the history of the book? Why it was written, etc.?

Why is the ADL so militant about asserting the 6 million number. Is it really any less awful if 3 or 4 million were massacred? Is there really an antisemitic effort taking place to wipe the holocaust from our consciousness? What would this accomplish?
