Songs have played an incredible role in opening me up emotionally and energetically also. And to me, many poems are songs as well.

I can "hear" music in my mind, always have. I've gotten to the point where I rarely use my CD/tape player because it's ultimately more satisfying to listen within. It's almost a form of meditation, I guess.
I "tune in" regularly throughout the day to lift my vibration and mood. I also like to sing, myself.

I was hopelessly/helplessly in love with a guy in high school, we never really got together, but the experience undoubtedly did open me up to new realms of feeling and understanding. And while I was in the throes of this (a year or so), I discovered this poem by W. B. Yeats:

The Song of Wandering Aengus

I went out to the hazel wood,
Because a fire was in my head,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread;
And when white moths were on the wing,
And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout.

When I had laid it on the floor
I went to blow the fire aflame,
But something rustled on the floor,
And some one called me by my name:
It had become a glimmering girl
With apple blossom in her hair
Who called me by my name and ran
And faded through the brightening air.

Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone,
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.

Love as an undying ideal, eternal hope, bliss--that's what my feelings for that boy opened me up to, and the poem was the perfect accompaniment to that.

It's been recorded by several artists, including Judy Collins, Donovan, and Richie Havens. I haven't heard any of them but I hear it on my inner radio, and never get tired of it...
