For quite some time I have wanted to talk about something I noticed about the birds where I live. My mother is pretty into songbirds and has a bunch of birdfeeders right outside the kitchen window. For years my father has been shooting the "bad" birds off the feeders. The bad birds could be defined by their fierce competition that drives off and kills the song birds. The worst are grackles, starlings, and cowbirds. They are easy to spot because they are all black, and every aspect of them is ugly, their appearance, their calls, and their behavior towards the songbirds. Cowbirds will land in a songbird nest, roll some of the songbird eggs out, and then lay their own eggs in the nest. The songbird will then raise the young cowbird, with its own young. The cowbird young is agressive and will usually overeat starving the songbird young. The songbird yound will often die while this ugly bird is raised by the unknowning songbird parents so that it can grow up and carry out the cycle again on another songbird. (Talk about deadbeat parents)

There is also birdhouse behind my parents house, and one day I noticed a starling sitting on top of the birdhouse for hours. Later my dad said he say a starling at the base of the birdhouse sitting there for hours pecking at something. When he eventually walked by he noticed a decimated songbird that had been most likely attacked as it was coming back to the birdhouse. This starling my father and I saw had pecked it to death. So these three ugly, bad birds I describe, I have theoriesed that they are the enbodyment of Service to Self. They contain all the negative characteristics I associate with STS; and they're ugly .

Anyway the most signifigant thing I have noticed about the STS birds, is they are everywhere where I live. I used to hear stories about passanger pigeons who were so numerous they would blot out the sky, well that is what these STS birds are getting close to doing here. They act a lot like the people who have been developing out here, they come in and decimate the natural beauty almost holding a contempt for it. Some days I will go out from work and every tree I can see will be filled with them, making their ugly bird calls, and pooping all over my car!!!

I have a theory that there is some signifigance with this monstrous bird presence, and the STS forces that are supposedly amassing at this time. These ugly birds to me are a physical manifestation of the STS idealogy that is pervading this time and space, that is my hometown now. Has anyone else noticed a greater amount of these STS birds around?

I don't know what kind of bird but they're the smaller ones so you know maybe a bluejay or a small bird like that. You know I really don't know but I think I may have actually been able to tell if it were a crow - aren't crows a bit larger than uhmm smaller birds lol . ? . . obviously I'm an expert on the subject. XD - you know but I can remember that every time they swoop on me that it is always like the smallest kind of bird that you really even see in the city area . . .

. . . by the way, did you know that some birds will actually communicate with you directly? Just like casually. I remember being in a parking lot at a place I worked at and it was night time and there was some bird in some tree off in the distance and it was doing it's chirping or whistling sound - I don't remember what it sounded like but I would purposely immitate it after it made the sound and it would return the favour right back to me. I knew it was intentionally communicating to me because before I began immitating it, it would wait longer between the sounds to repeat itself, but when I began to make the sound it made then it would repeat immediately after me. And it was actually almost a perfectly dispursed timing between the sounds both of us were making while we were communicating . . . like there was no question that the bird and I were chatting together.

And also sometimes when there are birds out in the city somewhere else (the ones that have shed any fear of humans and their devices) and they make the loud clicking/chirp noise, I can repeat that one back to them and they will respond to that as well.

CAW!!!! CAW CAW CAW CAW CAW CAW CAW!!! Then back onto the road in front of me, hopping around some more, wings still flapping all around, it was hilarious. This thing REALLY wanted to communicate something! What, I have no idea, but damn was he attempting to get some point across!

Did you feel like there was anything wrong with your situation at that time? Because my first impression was that the bird was trying to tell you that there was something very wrong - like as if you were in some danger that you were as of yet unaware of. And before reading what you wrote about the man sitting there without reacting to the animal, my reaction was that the bird would be warning you that the man was dangerous or possibly presented some subtle threat to you. Did anything bad happen that day that you could have avoided by not getting on the bus or something?

lyra wrote:

I'm chuckling about the display this crow is putting on, and glancing over at the Mexican guy.....who I soon realize is not even looking.

There's no eye contact between him and the crow. No acknowledgment WHATSOEVER on his part that this was happening. When the crow was in front of us doing his thing, this guy was looking at his feet, glancing up the street looking for the bus, staring off into space. When the crow hopped on top of the bus shelter and into the tree he didn't even look. When the crow was back on the street in front of us going beserk, he was again staring off into space.

Even worse.......every time I chuckled, he kept glancing nervously at me, like "What in the frickfrack are you laughing about?" He looked nervous and quizzical, like I was a crazy person talking to myself!!!!!!!!!

It dawned on me at that point....................maybe he doesn't see the crow.

Right, so that would seem pretty obvious that the man did not even percieve the bird to be there. Did you say anything to the man about the bird being there at all?

lyra wrote:

And I looked back at the crow going bonkers, focused only on me, and it just clicked.

What clicked??

I was sitting in my garden this morning thinking it was a little too quiet. Next thing I knew there were birds everywhere. I counted 10 different species and they were in pairs. Some of them would come sit in the trees and shrubs right next to me. It was almost like, *here we are!' I just sat there for about 20 minutes listening and watching their antics. About a week ago I wondered out loud to my neighbor about where all the snakes are, I hadnt see them yet. Next day I happened to glance out my window and there was a snake. Later that evening when I was walking around the yard another snake appeared in front of me. I had had my backyard certified and Nat'l Wildlife Habitat in Feb. of this year. And one of the stipulations is that you cant have outdoor cats..Well, all of a sudden, every darn stray or outside cat in the neighborhood started showing up in my yard. I was out there all day shooing them away. It went on about a month. I realized when I stopped *worrying about cats in my yard eating the birds*, they stopped coming around. So I began to see a pattern. If I concentrated on those thoughts, it would manifest itself very quickly. There was a warbling bird that I kept hearing that I just loved listening to, but I could never see it, and nobody that I asked could identify it for me. So one day when I heard its song, I ask politely if it could show itself to me. The next day I was sittng in the garden and I heard that beautiful warble and looked behind me, and there it was not 2 feet away in the tree behing me. Its mate also appeared and they have been in my garden since then. It was a catbird. I think the birds have something to tell us, but we have forgotten their language. Im really trying to work on communicating with them.
