"Try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations."

Hahaha... I just watched Monty Python's The Meaning of Life last night and it is an absolutely amazing critique on society. The Crimson Permanent Assurance bit is definitely my favorite sketch and the Galaxy Song has to be my favorite musical piece.

What are some other movies you guys have found that zero in on the Shift? I recently went to the Palm Springs International Film Festival to see the Spanish film "Chaotic Ana" - although it wasn't very well received by the rest of the moviegoers (IT DIDN'T MAKE ANY SENSE WTF OMG), I found it to be a very powerful film about the effects of over-patriarchy and one woman's journey to face society's fears. She is helped to deal with a traumatic event by a skilled hypnotist who finds that she has lived many past lives and died tragically very young every time.

Also on the list...
Waking Life
FLCL (the enemy robots are hands - my favorite is the 5th episode trenchcoat robot - think about how it is destroyed it's a TV series but only 6 episodes... about movie length
The Big Lebowski (The Dude is "The Fool" - Maude Lebowski is a higher intelligence, The Big Lebowski is TPTB - consider life as bowling)
Ratatouille (the harsh food critic is named IGO - need I say more?

and more!

I watched some B movies over the weekend, one of them was Nightmare City 2035. The concept seemed a bit similar to V for Vendetta but it was interesting because in the story the entire population of the city was microchipped except for the 'rebels' who are referred to as 'no-chip scum'. The chip made them all percieve the city to be a thriving and beautiful metropolis with Orwelian tv screens everywhere when in reality the entire city was in perilous ruin. And in part of the movie it shows someones chip get de-activated and their perception of the beautiful city melted before their eyes.

Also watched Shadow Puppets. The entire movie takes place in a dark underground prison lab where a doctors experiments in human memory erasure have gone horribly wrong. They somehow used the procedure on a man who was in a coma at the time, thus creating an evil nebulous flying cloud of death essence.

Also watched the entire Cube series. Cube, Cube 2 Hypercube and Cube Zero. The end of Hybercube was a tad interesting since it implied that secret organizations use parallel universes regularly according to their whim.

I'm trying to find the title of a made for TV movie. I think it was on FOX and it was around the time the Matrix came out but I can't remember if it was before or after.

The story followed a man that had a nice and easy life. Everybody had a nice easy life. The man would buy a new car every week. Work was great too. But he would get head aches and see a different reality. If he was watching a parade he might get a head ache and see the people in drab tan outfits and holding pieces of cardboard instead of flashy parade outfits and instruments.

He discovered his reality was manufactured. The reality was some catastrophe had happened and most people were in a false reality. They were protected from the truth by a small minority that was trying to rebuild the world but keep the rest of the people in the dark so they wouldn't freak out.

The man would still get head aches though and see the same drab reality. He discovered that even the reality he thought was real, wasn't. It turned out that people were kept in boxes and they were monitored by a caretaker. There was no conspiracy. It was just easier and cheaper to create everything people wanted in the "matrix like" reality than to make it all in real life. The boxes would create whatever consensus reality the people in it wanted.

I know that's not a lot to go on but I thought maybe someone here may have seen it and know the title. It was a thought provoking movie considering it was a low budget TV movie.

Ok so I watched transformers today. Not the most spiritual movie, I know, but I was a huge transformers kid back in the 80's so I thought I would see how Michael Bay messed it up.

The comment I wanted to make had to do with the end of the movie as the credits were beginning to come up. I have thought for a while that Stephen Spielberg has been fascinated with Extraterrestrials for a while, and have heard stories about him meeting in private with famous abductees. For starters he has been involved with many ET movies, for instance, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, ET, War of the Worlds, the Taken tv series, and Men in Black. Anyway at the end of transformers you see the main characters parents answering questions from TV Reporters to report on their alien sitings. The kids mom replies "Well I don't think there are any aliens, if there were then the government would tell us about them. That is one of the benefits of living in a free country is that our government would tell us those kinds of things" This statement is after we have been watching how aliens are running rampant all over the place and the military is well aware of them. Right after the mother is done making this statement Steven Spielberg's name pops up on the credits screen.

Wow, sometime I need to go back through and read this entire thread. But then making sure to see all the movies will be a full-time job in itself. Someday soon, hopefully.

I just saw a new one over the weekend called "The Nines". It's a puzzle movie, or a reality-is-not-what-you-think-it-is movie, so going into any detail about the plot may take away from the experience. There are plenty of reviews online that do this to varying degrees, and the short synopsis often given about three intertwining stories all involving the same actors is a pretty good description without going too far.

So to basically spoil it for the purposes of any meaningful discussion here (hopefully without much ruining the experience of watching it), this movie touches heavily on The Truth as many of us here might understand it as far as multidimensional incarnations on Earth. It's mostly toward the end, it doesn't go into much detail, and it's done in a disappointingly solipsistic way, but the ideas are along the lines of what many sources have suggested as far as how and why we spend our time the way we do on Earth (and how some of us get addicted to it like crack).

I'm partial to these kinds of movies anyway so I was having a really good time watching it knowing some resolution along those lines would be coming, but the few specifics that were in there made me think the director and screenwriter (John August) must have been using some metaphysical source material as his inspiration along with the personal experiences he has stated on record. There are some problems with the execution which may keep this movie from gaining a very wide theatrical release, but hopefully it will find an audience and get those who see it to think a little deeper about what might really be going on with our lives. And hopefully the solipsistic nature of the plot device won't snag too many people who might otherwise be open to seeking some real answers.

well, i never ever woulda guessed id ever be making a comment and directing others to see this movie--"Lady in the Water" by M. Night Shyamalan. never wouldve, and didnt think a thing of it, til i actually saw it, uninterrupted, yesterday in its entirety, on a nice early fall day. calm, quiet, could devote attention to it. i was amazed. unreal undercurrents. done very cleverly. all based on the theme, which i love to death--"ALL BEINGS HAVE PURPOSE." man, he weaved that theme in there very adroitly.

its a fairy tale about a fairy tale. he is a very adept writer. i love his name. and hes young, and pretty much with it. i like all his stuff, altho im sure it loses some oomph secondary to the physicality of a movie trying to portray the concepts of his words. check it out. life gives u meanings and messages and will surprise u. what u think may be ur destiny might not be the real deal. in the movie they needed a guardian, an interpreter of symbols and symbolic meanings, a guild, etc., to get this female queen fairy thingy chick back to her world. even she didnt know she was a queen of her kind. but she knew what had to be done but not the outcome directly. everybody had a purpose but it was often hidden or mistaken, or seemingly fit, or did not fit, at all. and who woulda thot? several lines in it got to me too. like all the ppl were really there for a purpose, drawn there, living their lives, yet they didnt know that, but collectively, it would change things. and how every little thing out of happenstance by ppl interacting with each other, can change the future, and the outcome in the future depends on that. it was so cool how he used the likes and hobbies and habits of the ppl in the apt complex (gathered together for a destiny they had no idea of) to indicate possibilities for their purpose. and he saved her life (the lady in the water) yet she saved his by freeing him from his trapped past and and getting him to see his true nature and abilities. she sorta returned him to himself.

i was surprised overall. the other half walked in, and said--"u didnt know that? and i still havent seen the beginning. its pretty cool isnt it?" then we discussed it like we were in lit class. i love doing that. have class over something thats interesting and thot provoking. what was surprising is that the reviews (inaccurate for the plot line) that id heard of it were not at all what it was trying to do. check it out.
