I had mine out a couple tears ago. Did the chair thing. If it's Versed and Fentanyl...no worries. I didn't feel a thing during the process. Of course with both processes it's the pain AFTER the procedure!!!

No matter how badly you want to eat/ drink (shakes, soup, water, milk etc) using a straw DON'T I got dry socket in 3 of the 4.

I detest pain, so I highly reccomend gas.

My stepsister got hers taken out with just a local and the horror story she told convinced me to have gas. This isn't a procedure for the squeamish. The dentist has to break the tooth into large segments and remove them with surgical pliers. You WILL experience some pain when this happens unless your entire face is completely numb. If you're awake and not restrained, you're going to instinctively resist, and it makes the dentist's job harder.

As for the whole manchurian candidate stuff, it's no joke. If you work for the government/millitary and your security clearance is high enough, a marine armed with a loaded M-16 will be present in the operating room, just to make sure that the doctor/dentist doesn't get any bright ideas.

I had a good dentist, so I didn't have much pain afterwards. With Vicodin, I can feel the pain, it's there, but I really don't care... The holes take a couple weeks to completely close, and in the meantime, the diet restrictions completely suck. Get stuffed 3 days before the procedure or risk doing a Jimi Hendrix.

I got mine removed in a chair, with the gas. The gas blacked me out completely, and I've always wondered if the doctor and nurse messed around with me somehow. So I wish I'd just gotten a local anesthetic. I think it would have been better, and if I'd only known it, it probably didn't have to hurt that much, because while it was painful for awhile, this was alleviated by general painkillers, and then when I went off of those it wasn't nearly as painful as I thought it would be. Everyone said how painful it was, but I found out that that was greatly exaggerated.

My wisdom teeth are coming out soon! I've known for a while and am quite ready for them to make their depature as pressure from them is uncomfortable to say the least. I haven't been under anaesthetic since '97 (badly broken wrist) and haven't been to the quacks with an illness in longer. What's making me uneasy now is a choice, on the table or in the chair? I'm leaning towards the chair but is there any real worry with the anaesthetic? Just like to hear some thoughts if any (however broad they may be)........ thanks ben

to further elaborate, health system/drugs/doctors/me....... i have a funny feeling this time round.
