Magnesium is another mineral most people are deficient in and since I've started taking it before bed (ok, not every night) I've not had a bad migraine. I used to get 1-2 per month and none for the last two months. I use a soluble solution, it's supposed to be calming and helps you sleep, although I don't notice it if it does.

Yeah keep the intake of potassium sensible, max commonly recommended dose is 3000mg potassium per day, that's about one level teaspon of salt substitute per day (on top of potassium taken in through fruits and vegetables). It's good to mix 1/4 teaspoon into two or three cups water, but if that still tastes horrible then you can put it on a spoon, place the spoon near the back of the tongue, hold you breath and tilt your head back, then remove spoon and quickly take a couple swigs of water - saves most of your tongue from enduring the "lick a battery" taste.

I don't like plain water, used to drink diluted fruit juice instead, but I've
come up with something better. Apple cider vinegar is known to be an excellent health tonic--it's a great source of potassium for one thing.
So I just decided I would make mix a little ACV into my water bottle and
add a packet of stevia powder (a natural sweetener, 0 on the glycemic index) to make it palatable. It's cheaper than buying juice all the time too. I carry it around with me and drink it whenever I feel the need. It's very refereshing.

I also eat fruits and veggies regularly, so I don't know if I was at risk for potassium deficiency, but it's good to know that I'm getting it in my water
too, just in case.

And, good to know I'm hydrating my cells, thanks for that info, Lyra.

Felt the need to resurrect this thread to highlight the Potassium issue for those who haven't seen this, as well as add an additional 2 cents to the matter:

- Not only is potassium apparantly very important to add into your diet for health reasons, but I've found that it's extremely useful to add to your water for better absorbability. For instance, if I drink my bottled water without any salt or potassium added, I just pee it all right back out again, which is bad for your body as it means you're peeing out vital minerals. Adding 1/4 teaspoon of Potassium salt substitute per 1 liter of water makes ALL the difference. It's amazing. Instead of peeing every 10 minutes the water instead will absorb into your body, where it can be put to good use...

- ...Hydrated cells are healthier cells which can function better and probably last longer. In addition, your colon is another major area where water is retained, and is one of the first places where water goes when you drink it. So help that along by drinking water which can be retained easier, it will aid your digestive process.

- If you're looking to buy potassium supplements in the store, at best every potassium substitute on the market only gives you 1% of the "RDA" for potassium. 1%!! Tell me that's not a conspiracy. (read the article that montalk posted above for more on the potassium conspiracy....) On the contrary, you can purchase potassium salt substitute where 1 serving size of 1/4 teaspoon gives you 17%, or 610 mg. So, go for the substitute over the pills, definitely. Probably absorbs better than pills do too.

- On that note I recommend Morton brand potassium, the same makers of Morton salt. I've tried "Nu-Salt" brand and it was the most wretched tasting stuff ever. Not edible at all. Learn from my lesson and avoid the trauma I went through with Nu-Salt.

Like Mriver noted, too much of anything can be a bad thing, so of course, don't go crazy and overdo it, putting like, a half a cup of potassium into your water or something. But I think the public probably could use more potassium and less salt, definitely. We're a salt obsessed society, no doubt about it.

Hi all hope i can be of some help while reading BACK TO EDEN a book by Jethro Kloss.A must read. He said bananas and raisins were a good sorce of Potassium. (caution) My girlfriend had bad cramps of the feet and hands i told her to eat more Potassium she did to no avail. She then went to the doc for a regular check up they found that her potassium level was way high causing the cramps. So to much of any thing can be harmful use in moderation. A place to find the book www.hiddenmysteries.com/ Happy hunting.

From my experience Potassium is fantastic for the brain. A great tonic, it can have mood enhancing effects. I find it helps with what some call "Brain re-wiring". I read about this in some channeled document somewhere and I now highly recommend it. Especially for those who enjoy doing mind-gymnastyics and psychic acrobatics and therefore tend to get drained that way.

http://joevialls.altermedia.info/potassium.html

Lots of interesting and possibly helpful information there concerning potassium. Turns out most americans are deficient in potassium, and this leads to a lot of problems that are later treated with designer drugs because doctors and patients are unaware of the real cause. This article suggests potassium is being purposely suppressed from public awareness and use, because it is such an important mineral. Read the article for more info.

I keep coming across info relating to potassium:

- there was an article reprinted in Valerian's Leading Edge journal about how hunter-gatherer humans ate a diet that was far higher in potassium than the modern diet. Here's another article which recaps what I remember reading:

http://www.wrc.net/phyto/paleodiet.html (this is basically the O+ bloodtype diet)

- friend of mine knew a doctor/author who a decade or more ago stumbled upon the importance of a high potassium to sodium ratio in the diet, wrote a book about it, and attempted to market a specially formulated salt that would help accomplish this (the salt is better and more absorbable than potassium chloride, the stuff you find in common salt-substitutes).

But at the time, his book got suppressed and his potassium salt attempt was sabotaged. I just searched the web and think I've found the guy and his book, which he now has co-authored and is releasing as a "new" book (no mention of his salt substitute though):

http://www.maxsportsmag.com/science/issue30/30sci1.htm

- I'm trying out the alkalizing diet, and just read some info about how those on this diet need to increase their potassium due to the way alkalizing food affects body chemistry. So anyone trying out the pH balancing diet, take note of this.

- the C's mentioned how a "mineral rich in alfalfa" had certain effects upon human bodies. It's commonly known that horses who fed on alfalfa developed greater endurance and vitality, and alfalfa is indeed known as a miracle food. So this mineral in alfalfa could have a corresponding effect upon people. Alfalfa contains high levels of calcium, phosphorus, and potassium - with potassium being the greatest one found in alfalfa. Calcium we can get elsewhere, phosphorus is found in our DNA and bones and has been implicated in spontaneous human combustion, but given the above links, I think potassium would be a good candidate for what the C's were talking about. Not that we should take channeled beings' word for it, just thought I'd throw this in for trivia.
