I think great music is usually made by crazy people who are a little bit off their rocker. Call it insane genius.   Wonder why that is, on a serious note......hmmm.

Probably because, in a nutshell --

1) They are above average in intelligence and creative insightfulness.

2) Their emotional centers have been blown wide open, likely through childhood difficulties (like abusive/neglectful parents or peer hostility). If their emotional center's have a lot of dark corridors, then that would be their influence.

And the combination of these two is the perfect recipe for Axl Roses and Kurt Cobains. And Jim Morrisons and Keith Moons. The list could go on. Aren't male rock stars known for being tempermental and chronic?

As far as Jerry vs. Slash is concerned, I can't really say.  I know that Jerry was responsible for much of the sound that we attribute to AIC, and I didn't realize it until I heard some of his solo work from "Degradation Trip".   I was like, "HEY!  That sounds like AIC...but with a different singer!"    There's no arguing that he's talented, but Slash has to play clean and "perfect" because it's the nature of the music he's playing.  Grunge rock could have the crunching edgy guitar sound, cause it was, well, grunge!

Sidenote:   Check out the movie "Singles", from 1992.  Silly movie.......but there's a scene of Alice in Chains playing a gig in a club in Seattle!  woohoo!  The movie was worth the $1.99 just for that!  Very cool!   Oh yes, and Eddie Vedder and the rest of Pearl Jam, and Chris Cornell from Soundgarden all have cameos too.

Okay, I know this isn't Metallica, but this is sort of the place to go for people who want to talk about the glory days of 80's and early 90's rock and metal...right??

Well, the thread wasn't started to be about Metallica per se, rather as more of "anything goes" zone. I never really got into Metallica until early last summer, and I still don't own any of their music, although a friend downloaded "Where Ever I Roam" for me so I can hear it whenever I want... this saving me from having to beam the radio with my intentions in order to hear the song . I think sharing about the glory days of rock and roll is great fun, you go ahead and post any and all you want about it!

And Guns and Roses? (or as I call them--Bums and Posies ) I'll never forget the first time I saw the "Welcome to the Jungle" video... whoa! Very quirkey was that! Obviously....ummm,  different .

I've enjoyed so much of their music over the years, but "November Rain" is one of my favorites... even if it does get me choked up .

Although I have to add, if given the choice between Guns and Roses and Alice in Chains, I'd take Alice in Chains! And although my man-critter, a guitar player (we've five guitars here, including a '73 Fender Strat... ooooh, ahhhh ), disagrees with me, I'll take Jerry Cantrell's hard and edgy guitar style over Slash's "perfect player" guitar style any day!

But this week I remembered my old favorite from highschool, GNR's "Use Your Illusion II."  Vol. I had some good tunes too, but I owned the II tape, and played it often.    I know Axl is a misogynistic pig, but damn that band rocked!!!!     Seriously.    I downloaded a bunch of their stuff this week, and I can't get over how damn good some of those songs were.   If anybody likes metal / rock, and you haven't heard "Estranged"..........find a copy, and listen to it.   Wow!!!!   9 minutes of epicness.   It's an amazing song.  I  had forgotten how it went after all these years, I just remembered that it had been my favorite on the tape, and after re-listening to it again this week I remembered why!   Wow!!!!!

I also still really like "14 Years", "Civil War", "November Rain", "Don't Cry" and "Breakdown."

You know, I almost forgot about that.  I had to read your post 3 times before I fully remembered about the whole party crashers thing.     Actually, I got peeved reading about the situation probably because I've had related things happen to me.  I get miffed at bullies and people going after what they perceive to be an easy target.  Key word of course being "perceive", because perception and reality are often two different things!   I'd bet my life that he wouldn't have opened his mouth had you been male, let alone call you a condescending name....because in the male world, the comeback response would be "You wanna take this outside?"  He's too scared for that.   But he can start stuff with a woman, sure, no problem.

Well that's exactly it.........sounds to me like he *did* size stuff up...judged her to be a meek little female, hence the reason he called her "Missy" !!   If she was a 6'4", scruffy buffed out male rolling his eyes at the screen then I doubt the f***** would have opened his mouth!     Seriously.   What a fricking bully.   Nothing worse than an old school male chauvenist picking a fight with an "easy target" woman and condescending her with "missy."

You were a lot more civil to the guy in the bank than I would have been.   There would have been a total SCENE had a stranger had the nerve to butt in and pick a fight with me and challenge how I respond to something that has nothing to do with him.

I went into the bank this morning, there at 9am   to take care of some business. I don't like going into my bank, one reason being they have a TV facing the waiting line and it is permanently set to CNN.

This morning I was standing there, next in line, and the TV showed the woman in Crawford, TX who is "sitting in" on the road to Bush's TX ranch. She's protesting the war--

'Something's broken alright, but it ain't his heart' was what I thought as I stood there. I, naturally, got a pinched look on my face, heavy-sighed, crossed my arms over my gut, and turned myself away from the TV screen as he kept on blah, blah, blah.

From behind me in the line I heard, "You got a problem with that, missy?"

Oh, yeah... not a good idea to call me "missy" with a patronizing tone.

I turned the voice's way, made eye contact with a man who is probably a retiree and Rep, and said, "Yes, why yes I do... I don't think a hypocrite should be running our country." And raised my eyebrow, defiantly.

'C'mon, take me on...' I thought, but he averted his eyes from me, backing down. What a chicken-shit bully... just like "his" president. How come Bush's daughters aren't in the armed forces, if he's so <bleeping> behind the war "effort". WHY???

If Bush grieves for every single lost soldier in Iraq, 44 this month already, then he shouldn't have time to do anything else but grieve. Grief is not fleeting.

I'll tell y'all... sometimes... just sometimes.... arrgggghhh... I'd like to take my bitchin' shoes and throw them at whoever makes the mistake of calling me out in public!
