Thanks again. Well I guess I shouldn't knock myself down too hard - as you say Lyra - but it is a tendancy I have, and keep on doing it. It is funny in a way, you may remember my other post about my Dad and his weird undermining moments. The first visit from this guy, occured the following day after one of those horrible chats with my dad. I felt a little down and disregarded. Then suddenly this guy turns up apparently ready and willing to listen to anything I may want to say...and having plenty to say himself. So without a lot of thought I went into it.

I can see how such people / institutions can prey upon weak / upset / lost people.

As for the people in the UK, they are not particually friendly around here. Downright nasty in fact. But then that is south of england for you. People are very STS here. North england and scotland is quite a lot better. People up there are very abrupt...but far more friendly.

The ways of the cities are nowadays the ways of the towns. No one has time for anything, and want everything now. Kick people down to get it too.

The JW's don't come around in my neighborhood anymore, seems someone called the cops!!!!!! Guess they were gently urged to go some where else to "spread the word."

It can be really frustrating to see how extreme the mind control hive mentality exists with these folks- UGH!!!!!!!! ESPECIALLY the subtle overtones of "good christian doormat" message geared towards women. Oh well, perhaps it's a lesson in tolerance for those who don't buy into their reality.

One on my major pet peevs is the medical arena (life saving procedures) -but guess it's their choice. Just doesn't seem right when these belief's border on killing their children who have no say at all (imho). Some doctors refuse to have JW's as clients, and from time to time medical journals address this very issue. Sad indeed.

It's kind of a balancing act to be friendly but watchful of new acquaintances.
If we lived in a kinder world, everyone could afford to be open and caring
to everyone, but this openness is exactly what con artists and predatory
types take advantage of. In fact, an astrologer friend of mine has warned
that during the next three years with powerful Neptune (read shapeshifter)
energies coming to the fore that scam artists, flim flam men and con artists
will be running all kinds of con games, especially on the elderly and
trusting types. Wishful thinking is especially dangerous now.

haha, im like Lyra in this regard, i dont open the door for ANYONE unless i am expecting visitors and know who they are.

heck, we dont even answer the phone if we dont recognize the number/caller.

tho, its not really a matter of me (and my girl) being suspicious, but rather we just want to be left alone. (and we dont really like to be bugged by sales pitches, whether they're for a new vacuum, knives, or a religion)

Marcus...! How horrible, don't call yourself dumb and naive. Actually, I'm not sure if my way of being really is the best way....it's come in handy when dealing with the suspicious types, but there have been plenty of people that have gotten the "suspicious eye" and leary, detached personality from me who ended up being okay. It's just that I've dealt with so many crappy people over the years - going back to when I was kid! - that unfortunately, EVERYBODY gets the suspicious treatment from me now. Again, it's actually probably not the best way to be. Ideally, there should be a middle ground, where one is neutral but cautious. That's what I'm striving for.

Another difference is that Americans in general are a little more gruff and unfriendly than people in other countries. We're a little "rough around the edges" I guess you could say. You're from the UK if I remember...people are probably a lot more friendly there!

But don't call yourself dumb....you're not. Remember...."Argue for your faults and they will be yours." !

Well thanks for the replies. I am thinking now that I would best have had a reaction like yours Lyra. I mean it's always interest to chat about such topics with people - but when it comes to strangers that probably have an agenda of which you are not aware...I guess it's not too clever. A fair bit of nievity on my behalf then.

I certainly won't be letting them in, after reading here and upon further considerations. I also suspect I won't bother talking to such people again.

I didn't get any negative vibes from the older guy - but he did seem to shy away from certain areas of our conversations. Guess I just believed they went from door to door looking to chat and bring "awareness" (even if it is a flawed awareness to a certain degree) to people. Not to sign people up...I didn't consider that until after their second visit. Dumb old me.

It was sort of nice to have some real people to chat to, but then those sorts of needs are the things people take advantage of aren't they.

Is this the first time you've encountered these JW's?
I'm like lyra. Nobody gets to come in the house unless
I've called them or I know them.
It's one thing to let your ideas and feelings be known on the net
but it's quite another to invite unknown people with an unknown
agenda into your mind. How do you know they weren't feeling
you out, trying to gain your trust?
Many of these JW's and Mormons who come to your door are
well-meaning people who have been indoctrinated and are attempting
to gain brownie points with their so called god by proselytizing you.
(I wonder if the Moonies make house calls?)

When I was in college I did allow a couple of Mormons to come
in my apartment and do their spiel. Nice guys, but I couldn't buy
the latter day stuff.
I also like what the National Lampoon did on the JW's.
They did a mock up of the JW Lighthouse pamphlet which is
usually titled "Awake!" National Lampoon's version was:

Oh, and they'll come back as often as you'll let them. What he wants is a Bible study with you. That's what they're "after" when they come to your door. (I was one a long time ago.)

It's a common practice when JW's are out witnessing door-to-door to take new JW's under their wing. The wife was probably somewhere in the same territory with the black suit guy's wife. Black suit may have been nervous; could've been his first time out.

Huh.....in reading your account Marcus I realized how different I approach the topic of people knocking on my door. ! Quite the opposite. I don't answer the door. I just can't tolerate people who roam around, knocking on people's doors, handing out religious material, trying to push their beliefs on others, trying to convert people, intruding on others, interrupting people's day. To me, it's wrong. I know others don't mind, but it just bugs me. Probably because I've encountered too many people in life who projected an air of nice but who were really fake - the niceness was there to try to charm people in order to "get in", but it wasn't sincere. So now I'm suspicious of all people who come a knockin' with big happy pleasant faces. Deep down I'm like, "yeah right...sure...." I also wonder if I would have gotten the same pleasant vibe from this guy that you did...or would I have picked up on something......

The fact that A) This guy keeps coming around, over and over again, and B) That he's now toting around some "MIB" type of dude....and yet is oblivous to the negative vibe which you so clearly picked up on says it all. Be careful! is all I can say. Might not be such a good idea to allow them to keep coming around. It's up to you though.

i also enjoyed the company of some of the witnesses i had over. some were very passionate, intelligent and polite.
but still the inevitable path of the bible circle with a closed impenetrable interpretation... part of me finds it attractive in its simplicity and dedication, but it really is not my cup of tea. to each his own.

About 3 weeks ago, a guy in his mid 60's came to our door with his wife. They gave me their names and asked if I had time to talk. They were clearly from an organisation or institute of some form - though I didn't pay very close attention. Anyway - we got talking about reality, consciousness etc. They wanted to know my thoughts on if I believed whether "The Creator" would take an active roll in the world soon. They pointed out that we are now in the "End Times". The chat was pretty neat - the guy had interesting things to say...and listened to what I had to say.

Afterwards I thought it was nice that there were people out there locally that thought beyond work and money etc.

They came back again last week; the guy and his wife. He talked about science and how contrary to contemporary belief, science is not at odds with the bible. I tended to agree that science has been presented in a misleading manner...though I am not religious or into Dogma so didn't talk about the bible with him. Only so far as to say that many of the ancient texts have a lot of potential to teach us - if we learn to read them in the correct way.

I noticed now they were Jehovah Witnesses - well I assume so as they peddled leaflets with the name Jehovah on them.

His wife stood off to the side - she kept quiet just as she had the previous time. The only thing she did say in a conversational manner was "My it is cold out here." A prompt I guess. I thought what the hell and chose to give the obviously desired response "Oh, you can come in if you want."

The guy said no we can't today...his wife’s sister was coming to visit so they must get home soon. This guy is really inauspicious, nice and friendly. I like talking to him.

He said he would take my offer up and come in next time.

Today the door bell went. I hadn't kept the house tidy, so I thought I would give an excuse.

The old guy was there - his wife absent. He asked if it was a good time to come in - I offered my apologies and gave my excuses. He was okay with it. Off too his left, his back half to me, was a young guy - about 35 - dressed in a black suit with a black coat - it was raining. He didn't say anything...the old guy didn't mention him until I looked at the younger one a second time. He introduced me.

I didn't like this young guy - he didn't talk, and I got a very negative vibe. An internal warning, and I could feel my energy seeping out the door towards him.

The friendly guy asked if it was okay to come back next week. I said yes, but I wondered where his wife was - she seemed nice - even if quiet.

Not sure that I want the Guy in Black in my house - I suspect he wants something. No doubt our discussions would lead down an inevitable path - as he leads me along with words - into getting me to join their institute or giving him something.

He was very smooth, he looked vibrant and successful. But his presence felt like when a cloud covers the sun on a bright day.

All very odd. I suspect the pleasant guy to be his little forerunner - going out to find potential candidates. Shame - I liked the little chats we had.
