The reference to Hunter S Thompson comes from an account in the book where a teenage victim describes being forced to make a snuff film at a place that sounds very much like Bohemian Grove though he does not name it as such. He does describe an owl statue in a wooded location near Sacremento which certainly fits the bill. He names the director of the film as Hunter Thompson (who was flown in from Las Vegas). That's what this whole thing stems from.

If that is true, it would certainly make him a bad guy in my book, other than that I've always kind of liked him. I would reccomend the film "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" for a hollywood version of him and some cool psychedelic effects as he is tripping for half the movie.

I'm not sure whether to reccomend "The Franklin Coverup" as it is very disturbing, to the point of effecting my outlook on life as I was reading it but am now glad I did.

Lyra, you want to know who Hunter S Thompson was-- perhaps you should pick up one of his many books...

Seemingly he was a man who was driven to write about and expose the under belly of life, without a great deal of spiritual connection or any.

Or was he reveling in it?  People that have no morals or who have lost hope or beauty frequently like to submerse themselves into the dirt, mostly as a fight against their own conscience.

Actually..........I didn't share that article.   You'll see that it was Ayahuasca who posted it.  I merely commented on it.  Not that it matters, but just wanted to clarify.    I'm done commenting on it however, because it's all stuff we'll just never be able to know.  I wanted to learn who the guy was, and I think I've heard enough!

Well, you can Google Bohemian Grove (or use whatever search engine you prefer).....you'll probably turn up a ton of links and information.   That's how I learned about it, anyway.  Bohemian Grove is just one of those things that keeps coming up, over and over again in all the conspiracy research.

David Icke's book, "Children of the Matrix" features a really interesting picture from the 1960's of then-actor Ronald Reagan, sitting next to future American President Richard Nixon, at Bohemian Grove.

Many people have wondered....why would some B-rate actor be rubbing elbows with the future Prez of the US?  !   The fact that we now know what Ronnie became - Governor of California, 2 term President of the US, says something.    It opens up a Pandora's Box of what goes on behind the scnees at these gatherings where the elite hob knob.   

Anyway, do a search on the 'net, you'll turn up a bunch of stuff.......

I'm not trying to make anybody "fall into the polarity game".   I read the article and was left a little confused.   Like I said, I hadn't heard of the dude before he went and killed himself.    In an attempt to figure out what the bruhaha was about, I've read the commentaries and tributes to learn who this guy was, what he did, and why so many people are being emotionally affected by this.   And after all that, I'm just plain confused.    So when I ask "is he a good guy or a bad guy" it's not about trying to force someone into a polarity box.   It's a valid musing, considering the possibility that he may be linked to a Bohemian Grove pedophilia snuff film.   That's a heavy duty accusation.    How many people do we ever hear of who are accused of filming little children being forced to perform sex acts on another dead child....then being forced to eat the body?     Are people even catching the gravity of that claim??   That's not something to gloss over, it's something to look into.     I don't care what marvelous bits of journalism the dude may have created over the past 30 years.....if someone is going to claim that Hunter Thompson was there at Bohemian, involved in that, then it needs to be investigated, not glossed over.    And to ask such questions isn't playing the polarity game.   It's asking a valid question.....Is he what he seemed to be?    Is he actually worth getting worked up about??    I mean, who is he??   If he was indeed at Bohemian, was it "just to investigate" ??    Seems a little suspicious that somebody could continue to remain a detached journalist merely observing, gathering notes and evidence while standing behind a camera filming something like that.

What about the samurai? It doesn't strike me as any surprise that HST took his own life. His son mentioned something about it in an article I read shortly after his death... if I find it soon I'll edit the link into this post... However, as it is I have just returned from 24 hour surgery for the second time since 1am so I think I'm going to hit the hay.

I think the only way to make a decision about whether he's a good guy/bad guy is through reading his work.  Everything else is colored by whomever is writing about him.

But, my gut feeling because of my OWN feelings about suicide is that the take of  "he wanted to leave at the top of his game" is just wishful thinking and/or BS.  I've never viewed suicide as something honorable (except for people like Socrates ... death before dishonor).

And if he was murdered like some suspect Marilyn Monroe and others were, what difference does it make? Would we be surprised if it was proved that he was murdered? I think not. The important thing is what he actually did whilst he was alive. His legacy and his soul lives on.
