I haven't read Daniken's later stuff; I have the local libraries to thank for not holding it :S, the most recent one I read was about the Nazca (sp?) airstrips, also very interesting. The main criticism that goes hand in hand with von Daniken's writing was that his methods were very "unscientific", by which I guess it is meant that he doesn't adhere to the institutionalised doctrines and dogmas of scientific methodology. I would be tempted to say that in my eyes this lends more credibility to his name, as it shows he is willing to separate himself from the circles of concrete academia (facing ridicule and dismissal) to pursue a subject he feels is very relevant and important.
