A number of y'all have described the "floaty things" as sperm-like. For me what I see looks like fossils. They look like tiny fossils that have been released from rock and are floating up and onward... that's just how I've understood them . I've seen this for as long as I've looked into the sun, since I was a kid... if I have so chosen to focus my eyes that way. Iriana has described the way the fossil particles appear to a tee though--

Actually, if you go to this web page and look at the fossils that are in the top left USGS box, these are exactly the things I see when I focus my vision to see two different fields when my eyes are to the sun, though not all clumped together like they're depicted--

As well I also see little Seahorse fossils. There's not ever a preponderance of any of the fossils. Usually there's I'd say 5-10 of them in my field of vision.

There have been times when I was ill or overly tired and stood up too fast, and I'd see the little spermie squiggly electric thing-a-mah-gigs on the outside periperal of my vision, and lots of them, but these and the fossils are very much two different things.

Just wanted to add my experiences with these "unknown" floating thingys. First, I have floaters sometimes. Know what they are and an optometrist I once asked about them explained them to my satisfaction. No biggy.

But only last year, summer time, I was laying on the deck in the full sun around dinner time, and for the first time saw those unknown thingys. They looked like pairs of sperm to me, so I described them to my son and husband as sperm-like. They were always in pairs and seemed to be thousands of them.

[In fact, right now, inside on a dull day, I think I can see them now, staring at a blank wall. Can't make them out clearly, but a slight visual sense of them is there.]

Coupla' days later, in the same place, doing the same thing, my husband reported seeing them. Ok, coincidence now?

Then about a week after that, my son, same place, had the same occurence. It happened again to me about another week later.

Just the other day, hot and sunny, clear sky, same place, mid-afternoon, they "reappeared" to me.

Seem to me to be some kind of electrical impulses. But they are decidedly sperm-like in appearance.

Don't think it's circulation related either (which was an initial thought of mine) since there are too many differences among the three of us. For example: age, sex, weight, physical fitness (son is an amateur athlete, exercises daily; hub exercises on a semi-regular basis, I rarely exercise. Ok, never. ). Also I smoke and they don't. Big age diffs too: 49, 36, 20. So something decidedly different is occuring/appearing to all three of us.

Btw, none of us takes any drugs, or uses any vitamin supplements.

And my biggest question beyond just what those things are, is why NOW?

personally, i KNOW i have shit floating around in my eye, i see "threads" floating around all the time, and they bounce with my eye movement.

but, BESIDES that, i have seen other things in my vision that didnt seem to be a part of my eye. such as small "dots" firing off in directions (similar to when u are dizzy / "got the lights knocked out" "seeing stars")

like athurian said ,some of it seems to be/feel like energy.

Might be a hole in my logic, I don't know, but just a thought.

Leukocytes, huh?  It's good to have a "official" explanation that I can relay to others when I describe this, but, the truth is, until I get further proof and do some thinking and observation of my own, I'm not going to make up my mind.  I haven't spent enough time observing these things to say for certain what they seem to be to me.  There sure are a ton of them, though!  It's like chaos in there!

I couldn't agree more Haven; empiricism is necessary with such subjective things.

Also, keep in mind that these weird little things that we may have never noticed before can be as objective and "official" as something that we are more familiar with seeing every day. Don't let it stop you from doing other things, it may very well be a distraction.

A "correspondent" once said to me something along the lines of, "The world is burning and
you want to be concerned with "floaty things". It was a good piece of advice for me, anyways; even if I didn't want to acknowledge it at the time. [Even though these "floaty things" I was talking about weren't floaters, phosphenes OR leukocytes - but that doesn't mean they were any more "important".]

Of course, I could very much be in the wrong here.

This is interesting.  I have a laser pointer, and if you shine it on certain things, there does seem to be all these circles around the diffusion of the laser point that I can swear that are put there by my perception and not anything the laser is actually doing.

The "floaty" things, bubbles, "blue-sky" squiggles are appropriately called Floaters:

Thanks Craig-Yes I've known of the rationale you mention above - for awhile. The thing is, that it actually does not cancel out my perception of the possibility **behind** the science.  Kind of like when I heard a physicist on a documentary  trying to explain away that astrology could not possibly have any basis in science since "modern day physics" makes that impossible. I actually laughed out loud- then I knew to reign in  my attitude. But really wondered why he thought "modern day physics" would cancel out any possibility that perhaps certain aspects of astrology could be based on and/or in scientific rationale relating to astronomy and other things that he is not aware of. Clearly he had not investigated Vedic Astrology which continues (in my limited experience of it)  to very clearly honor the science upon which it is based.

So yes, I get what you are saying. I can, at times, see different perspectives re: issues such as this. It is hard to avoid this. I was trained to think critically, in spite of how things might seem in my posts. My background in health care (and the sciences I had to study to get into it) are constantly with me in one way or another. No matter how far off into the esoteric I many lean.
