Ezines are usually free, but you can use them as vehicles for sales and for name recognition. You can also write articles for other people to publish in their ezines which then link back to your websites.

I am enjoying getting back to writing. I was a bit rusty, but its starting to flow better now. (I leave the boring _computer_ stuff to Jason )

We were discussing creating a flash movie presentation today. The hard part is trying to blend the creativity with something that will be marketable.

An ezine sounds interesting. Are you thinking of making the whole thing free? Or maybe you are thinking of having some of the articles for free and some on a pay basis? Another possible model is advertising.

Or maybe you want to write or do artwork or photographs and leave the boring business stuff to someone else? :-)

I think that it is possible to combine one's passion, interests, and livelihood. Writers and artists and musicians come to mind. Not that this is easy, I'm just saying that it can be done.

I am looking at writing and publishing as a way to do this. I could write my first book, and then self-publish it by creating a company to publish and distribute the book. Then if that works ok for me, then I could help other people to publish their writing either through my company or through other publishing companies.

Now a simpler model is to write a book and find a publisher. However, I think that I prefer to publish my own work for various reasons. I have worked in several start-ups and for a long time I have been interested in starting my own company. A publishing company can be quite scalable. Start small and then ramp up if there is sufficient demand. Otherwise, just keep it small.

So this is what I am looking into.
