Stonehenge rebuilt?

How They Rebuilt Stonehenge
For decades the official Stonehenge guidebooks have been full of fascinating facts and figures and theories surrounding the world's greatest prehistoric monument. What the glossy brochures do not mention, however, is the systematic rebuilding of the 4,000 year old stone circle throughout the 20th Century.

This is one of the dark secrets of history archaeologists don't talk about: The day they had the builders in at Stonehenge to recreate the most famous ancient monument in Britain as they thought it ought to look.

This picture shows workers on the site in 1901 in a restoration which caused outrage at the time but which is rarely referred to in official guidebooks. For it means that Stonehenge, jewel in the crown of Britain's heritage industry, is not all it seems. Much of what the ancient site's millions of visitors see in fact dates back less than 50 years.

From 1901 to 1964, the majority of the stone circle was restored in a series of makeovers which have left it, in the words of one archaeologist, as 'a product of the 20th century heritage industry'. But the information is markedly absent from the guidebooks and info-phones used by tourists at the site. Coming in the wake of the news that the nearby Avebury stone circle was almost totally rebuilt in the 1920s, the revelation about Stonehenge has caused embarrassment among archaelogists. English Heritage, the guardian of the monument, is to rewrite the official guide, which dismisses the Henge's recent history in a few words.  Dave Batchelor, English Heritage's senior archaeologist said he would personally rewrite the official guide. 'The detail was dropped in the Sixties', he admitted. 'But times have changed and we now believe this is an important piece of the Stonehenge story and must be told'.

Cambridge University archeological archivist and leading Stonehenge author Christopher Chippindale admitted: 'Not much of what we see at Stonehenge hasn't been touched in some way'. And historical research student Brian Edwards, who recently revealed that the nearby Avebury Monument had been totally rebuilt, has found rare pictures of Stonehenge being restored. He said: 'It has been as if Stonehenge had been historically cleansed'. 'For too long people have been kept in the dark over the Stonehenge restoration work. I am astonished by how few people know about it. It is wonderful the guide book is going to tell the full story in the future.'

A million visitors a year are awe-struck as they look back in time into another age and marvel at the primitive technology and muscle-power which must have been employed transporting the huge monoliths and raising them on Salisbury Plain.  They gasp as they are told about this strangely spiritual site.... mankind's first computer, its standing stones and precise lintels, lining up magically and mysteriously with the heavens above and the solstice suns.

But now, as if to head off a potential great archaeological controversy - and following interest displayed by historical researcher Brian Edwards and a local newspaper, the brochures will be re-written, to include the 'forgotten years'. The years when teams of navvies sat aboard the greatest cranes in the British Empire to hoist stones upright; drag leaning trilithons into position, replace fallen lintels which once sat atop the huge sarsens. As Mr Edwards - the erstwhile enfant terrible of British archaeology following revelations that nearby Avebury was a total 20s and 30s rebuild by marmalade millionaire Alexander Keiller - says: 'What we have been looking at is a 20th Century landscape, which is reminiscent of what Stonehenge MIGHT have been like thousands of years ago. It has been created by the heritage industry and is NOT the creation of prehistoric people. What we saw at the Millennium is less than 50 years old.'

In archaeological terms the re-writing of the guidebooks is dynamite. English Heritage run Stonehenge on behalf of the nation, and an English Heritage insider revealed: 'Dark forces were at work in the 70s, when a decision was taken to drop the information about the restorations Now that is about to change.'

The Restoration and Rebuild

The first restoration of Stonehenge was launched 100 years ago this year.

And, in 1901, as the builders went to work, The Times letters column was full of bucolic missives of complaint. But the first stage of 'restoration' thundered ahead regardless and the style guru of the day, John Ruskin, released the maxim which was to outlive him.... 'Restoration is a lie,' he stormed.  Nevertheless the Stonehenge makeover was to gather momentum and more work was carried out in 1919, 1920, 1958, 1959 and 1964. Christopher Chippindale, curator at the Cambridge University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology and Anthropology, and author of Stonehenge Complete, admits: 'Nearly all the stones have been moved in some way and are standing in concrete.'

A stone was straightened and set in concrete in 1901, six further stones in 1919 and 1920, three more in 1959 and four in 1964. There was also the excavation of the Altar stone and re-erection of the Trilithon in 1958.

The guide book 'Stonehenge and Neighbouring Monuments' , and the audio tour of the Henge omit any comprehensive mention of the rebuilding in the 20th Century. Only on page 18 is there a slight reference...'A number of the leaning and fallen stones have been straightened and re-erected.' But even that official guide book does contain clues to the large scale restoration, which was not deemed worth a full entry.

Why does John Constable's 1835 painting of the Henge on pages 18 and 19 look so vastly different from the latter-day pristine photograph across pages 28 and 29?  REASON: A lot of restoration work had taken place in between the two images being recorded. And, during long hot summers it would be possible - if one could get near to the stones - to see the turf peeling back to reveal the concrete boots into which the majority of the stones are now set. A dead give-away, but difficult to spot now as proximity to the Henge is limited.

Re: Stonehenge rebuilt?

Oh dear, there goes another childhood myth. I had no idea about this, interesting that the information should now be coming to light.  Is it, I wonder 'time for the truth' or another way of 'writing off' the complex knowledge of previous civilisations along the lines of "...well the Henge is fake, so how do we know about the alignments etc etc..."  I wonder who was in charge of the restorations and their intent.  Were they resurrected to be 'useful' or scrambled?

The first link http://www.ufos-aliens.co.uk/cosmicstonehenge.htm
gives some wonderful photos and shows Constable's painting so we can see for ourselves the extent of the 'restorations'.  Even if Constable didn't paint exactly, there's a world of difference between the two scenes.

When I was little, one could still visit within the stones and there was to me a magical feel about them, stemming perhaps from their immense size and solid power, I would only have been about six then.  I realise now of course that their energies would be very affected by concrete caps since the stones need intimate contact with the earth to function if they are in keeping with other, less 'rearranged' circles and menhirs.

I will see what the British Dowsers have to say about this as there have been quite a few 'energy' studies of this area by their members.

Thanks for posting the truth, Doc.

The energy should still be there and detectable by dowsers regardless of what restoration has been done to the stones.  The stones could probably be removed and you'd still feel the energy.  Which is probably exactly why that site was chosen in the first place as a location to put the stones.  From what I gather, much of England in general is riddled with energy/vortex points, hence Stonehenge, crop circles, and who knows what else.  I'm no expert on the subject, nor very knowledgeable on it all, but I think it has something to do with "ley lines" and stuff like that.  England has some pretty powerful ley line/vortex energy points.

In fact, if I'm not mistaken.....................................................that's why they set the start of the Longitudinal lines to be in Greenwich, England (Greenwich Mean Time) and constructed some sort of huge dome-type structure to go right on top of it.    Hello. wink  Trapping the massive amount of energy that seems to be emitted in that area.  Domes are classic Brotherhood architecture having to do with energy capture or something.  (Thanks to the writings of David Icke for making me aware of the Greenwich dome and the meaning of domes in general!)

Re: Stonehenge rebuilt?

Indeed Lyra, the energies will still be flowing but may now not be directed, attenuated or amplified by the stone arrangement as they presumably were when the henge was originally erected.  In the present day, there will certainly be energies transmitted to the stones by the presence of the visitors; expectation and excitement for example seem to have an energising effect on stone circles in my experience.

My comments are based on the findings that energy patterns at circles tend to change with increasing human interaction and conversely abandoned stone circles, or those rarely visited, seem lifeless by comparison even though the energy and/or water lines are still present.  It seems almost as if the 'ritual' of people going to these places reactivates them in some way, otherwise they remain drained like an old battery.  There are perhaps some long bows drawn here and certainly no absolutes, all of this is coloured by one's own perception of course.  And in dowsing it can be all too easy to find what one sets out to find if one isn't careful!

Also it has long been the dowsers equivalent of  the 'chicken and egg' quandry as to whether such stone arrangements attracted the energy lines to them by their geometrical arrangement or the already present earth energies were manipulated by the stone formation.  Direct contact with the earth, rather than concrete or other foreign material in between, seems to be necessary if a stone's ability to regulate, if that is the right word, the energies, is not to be compromised, hence my comment regarding Stone Henge.  Was it rebuilt with some intent to function, even if poorly, or even nefariously, or just put back together to be aesthetically appealing?  Certainly with concrete feet, some of those stones won't function properly, but perhaps that was the aim?

It has been shown, for example, that water domes (water upthrusts from deep in the earth) can be attracted to labyrinths laid on the ground, water that was definitely not present beforehand.  According to my and others' research (though not all dowsers or earth 'energists' are in agreement, far from it, and as it should be) water domes and/or veins can also 'carry' an energy overlay of some manner that seems to be separate to the energy, for want of a better word, emanating from water.  But perhaps geometic patterns are not always necessary since several, reputable US water dowsers are adept at moving water veins with only the power of intent so that dry wells are filled once more.  Or at least this is what we are intending to do, no one really knows what happens underground and it's a big leap of faith that it happens at all until one sees it happen of course.  Certain energy lines can be persuaded to 'move' similarly.

It has been postulated that stone circles, such as those in Devon and Cornwall (SW England) were erected to gather up harmful earth energies and remove them from the nearby villages.  Stone circles are rarely within villages but there are other explanations for this of course, that they were put where the energies lay.  Given that many of the stone circles are in areas where the granite also puts out radon gas, again it could be that the stones were used to channel or manipulate the energies of such faults so that the radon was drawn away.

Ultimately this is all speculation of course and if it is of interest to people, the British Society of Dowsers' Earth Energies Group has a lot of its journal online for free, many articles of which go into the subject of stones and their effect upon energy lines and the possibilities of vice versa.

Re: Stonehenge rebuilt?

Thanks for the dowsing links Sheila. I took a look out of passing interest and didn't really know what to expect.

The first article I read is fascinating.

Further Observations on the Crosses We Bear

by Dr. Günther Schneck
http://www.britishdowsers.org/EEG_site/archive/articles/aqb2005_issue39/images/schneck_fig1.jpg

In the author’s previous article in the EEG Newsletter, Vol 7/25 March 2002, it was said that grid lines form three-dimensional crosses on practically everybody.
These crosses have a detrimental effect. The broader the grid lines forming the crosses, the more detrimental the effect will be on the individual concerned.

Seven different grid lines were described as forming these crosses, with the Hartmann grid lines producing the least harmful cross. Since then, further broader grid lines have been found, all of which can form crosses, but which are much rarer than the first seven grid patterns. A total of twenty-four grids have so far been dowsed.

Why were these additional gridlines not dowsed earlier? The problem is that the broader grid lines consist of strands of energy bands with spaces being found between the bands. According to M. Mettler (1990), the grid lines consist of electro magnetic lines as the primary bands while the second part, being the spaces in between, consists of ions and electrons. When dowsing for an energy grid cross, one could easily dowse a band, believing it to be a grid line.

Further confusion is to be expected as there is considerable variation in width and intensity of the lines. In a period of good weather, the lines are strong and easy to dowse but, should it be cloudy, they become more difficult to detect, to the point of being almost impossible to detect during fog. Furthermore, the North-South orientation of the Hartmann grid lines can change up to some 10°. The size of grid “meshes , i.e. the distance between grid lines, seems to vary according to longitude, e.g. Grid 1 (Hartmann Grid) lines are some 1.6m apart in South-West England, whereas they are 2.0m apart in Switzerland, compared with being some 2.5m apart in Tenerife. The higher grids can run at angles nearing 180°.

So, while a person carrying a cross formed by Curry Grid lines, for example, would experience a change in the polarity of the cross approximately every 2.5m, an individual who was carrying a cross formed by Grid 19 lines would have to walk 750m straight along the grid line in order to change the polarity of his specific cross, as this is the approximate distance between the grid lines for this particular grid.

The 24 Grids

The values cited for these results are those dowsed in Devon, South West England. It should be noted that different values will be found in other locations, especially when one is examining the distance between the grid lines. Values give for the higher grids are approximate and are open to more exact measurement.
(Grid Table shown)
It seems that the increase in line width is connected with the increase in distance between the grid lines.

The author has always experienced difficulty dowsing Earth grid lines in the presence of others. This has applied not only to curious onlookers but also to fellow dowsers. In the light of the findings regarding crosses, it becomes clear why dowsing is easier when alone. If a number of people congregate together, all of the grid lines from the various crosses are present, making it difficult to dowse the “real  Earth grids.

It seems that crosses for the higher grids cannot be dowsed by the bearer himself but require the assistance of another dowser.

Confusion can arise by dowsing an energy band of a broad grid line. For example, a Grid 23 band has a width of approximately 0.40m. This could easily be confused with a Grid 5 line, having a width of 0.43m. In this case, another dowser has to find out the true grid present. Dowsing for the higher girds is extremely difficult.

The author has always found that Communion has reduced whatever cross he was carrying to the most favourable cross, being Nr 1 (Hartmann). After church Communion services, the author has devicelessly dowsed the service participants at various coffee breaks. All have been found to have changed to the Nr 1 (Hartmann) cross. While the author considered that some of those he dowsed may not have participated in the services in a state of highest religious zeal, it seems that even those who must have participated in quite a routine manner still had a Nr 1 cross.

How Does This Affect Dowsers?

It appears that we have a defensive mechanism, which is the first layer of our physical aura (often called the etheric layer) that protects us against any geopathic stress we might meet while dowsing. If the etheric layer becomes saturated with geopathic stress, then the negative energies pervade through to the physical body, causing disturbance of fine regulatory processes, possibly leading to illness. It seems that this may be a safety or buffer zone that, once full, spills over into the body. The process of dowsing in itself does not seem to affect this first layer of the aura.

It is possible to clear this first auric layer of its geopathic stress. For instance, there are power points in certain churches that will clear the etheric layer of the aura of such stress. A stay of some 20 minutes at St Mary’s Church, in Appledore, Devon, for instance, will suffice. However, it appears that the best method of reducing geopathic stress in the aura’s etheric layer is by maintaining intensive contact with the earth and plants, i.e. by gardening. The author has often proved this by dowsing himself both before and after gardening.

In addition to the fairly well known auric layers, there is another invisible “body  that is of great significance for dowsers. It is entirely different from the aura, and was well known to the Ancient Egyptians who referred to it as the Ka body. Modern day theosophical societies call it the “Life Body . This Ka body vaguely follows the outline of our own physical body and can be dowsed. (Figure 2). In the author’s case, it measured 0.11m, compared with the etheric layer of the aura with which it should not be confused, which measures around 0.05m. It is to be appreciated that all these observations are very subjective and are still open to discussion or change.
http://www.britishdowsers.org/EEG_site/archive/articles/aqb2005_issue39/images/schneck_fig2.jpg

According to mystical lore, the Ka body survives physical death until such time as the physical body has decomposed. This may be the reason for the obsession amongst Ancient Egyptians with preserving the dead by mummification.

The state of the Ka body is very fluid and can be either “negative  or “positive . Any dowsing activity seems to contribute to the negative side. Higher negative values are caused by map dowsing or other forms of mental dowsing and are especially high when moving field or energies. However, this is nothing compared with the amount of negative energy produced in the Ka body by speaking a curse, a point clearly indicated in the Bible. Not only does the curse leave negative energy in the Ka body of its recipient, but it actually has an even stronger negative impact on that of the sender. Therefore, when witches stuck needles into a figurine representing a particular person, it was the recipient’s Ka body that they injured. However, at the same time they also stuck invisible “needles  in their own Ka body without realising it. This phenomenon is described in the mythology and fairy tales of all cultures. A good act will leave a positive mark or energy in the Ka body. Likewise, a blessing will leave positive energy in the Ka body of both the receiver and the sender. All strong emotion directed towards others, like hate, envy, or jealousy have an invisible impact on the Ka body of the receiver but the effect on the sender’s own Ka body is even more significant.

The author has found that after intensive mental dowsing, map dowsing etc., the increased load in the Ka body produced a definite physical effect, e.g. bad knees worsened.

Why should a harmless or even beneficial dowsing activity produce negative energies in the Ka body? It could be compared with connecting onto the Internet to access some information without paying the service provider his fee. Maybe in the case of dowsing, it is the absence of asking for permission and not giving thanks for the privilege that causes difficulty.

How can one clear the Ka body of negativity?

Again, there are certain old churches that are built on specific power points, which will clear the Ka body if one stays in them for at least 20 minutes, e.g. Salisbury Cathedral. Probably other religions have their own ways to clear a Ka body, e.g. erecting a temple on a specific power point.

The author would like to add his own experience in respect of cleaning the Ka body. Participating in a Communion service not only reduced his cross to the optimum level, but also cleared the Ka body of all negativity. Not only did this have a mental effect but the author also experienced a definite physical one, e.g. bad knees got better.

As far as Christianity is concerned, a powerful beneficial energy must have been created at the first Communion, some 2000 years ago, that has been that has been passed on and on. This Christ energy is still at work today, though unfortunately to their own disadvantage, fewer and fewer people are open to accepting this wonderful gift

Food for thought there...
