Topic: Grow your own house

Gotta check these links out.  Basically, with a little care, you can convince a bunch of cuttings to join together into a living house, essentially a massive artificial hollow tree.  How cool would that be.

Sorry bout that, got them fixed.  The second link is the one that actually details how to do it.  Here is the synopsis of the process they give:

P.J. Wilkin wrote:

If cuttings struck from the same young tree were planted closely together in a circle and their advancing shoots woven into a sort of large upside down basket as they grew, the stems would graft together as they thickened and an artificial hollow tree could be produced. As time went by all the little holes between the stems would fill in with new wood to exclude the elements, making the tree ready for habitation.

Re: Grow your own house

limukala, I loved the first link and idea, but the other three links don't work sad
Could you please try to repost them if you could?  I'd love to read/see more about this idea.

Termites anyone?

How often are living trees full of termites?

Re: Grow your own house

That is quite impressive. When I escape to Patagonia I might well put something like this into action. What about a Buckminster Fuller dome?

That's absolutely mindblowing, limukala! Talk about sustainable technology.
