Re: how do you meet people like us?

It IS pretty tough to find people who share interests like you find here
at NR.  Some of us have given up trying to find like-minded people
amongst our everyday contacts.
You almost have to develop a new sense to feel out other people's
interests.  And you have to do this without giving yourself away, too.

Like montalk's signature line:  Searching for Fringe Knowledge is like
digging for diamonds in a mine field.  (or something like that)

You can "sound" people out by making comments about something
and then registering their reactions.  If they seem like they're like-
minded, then you can explore further.
Good Luck!

Re: how do you meet people like us?

I agree with Tom Paine's suggestion.  You throw a piece of bait out there and see who bites.  This just happened at my last temp job which I finished this past Friday.  I was training my replacement, (I chose to not stick with the assignment long term, so she was taking over for me) and she's this older black woman in her mid-50's.  I'm a 33 year old white girl.  So on the outset it seems we probably don't have much in common.  But then things took quite an unexpected turn.  So we're sitting there at my desk, with me teaching her stuff, and she noticed my earrings.  She asks me if I happen to like amethyst, because the earrings were these purple hearts with violet beads, and I'm like, Yeah, I do actually.  That led to a discussion about gemstones and rocks and making jewelry out of them, stuff I'm interested in as well, as I've also made most of my own jewelry over the years, same as her.  Then she mentions that she used to be really into the whole rocks and gems thing, and carried around a little pouch of rocks with her....

....To which I go "!!!" and turn and pull my little pouch of rocks out of my sweater pocket.  I told her that normally I'd never show that to anybody but she was obviously cool and could understand that whole deal.

From there, things took off.  To make a long story short, we were both into the same things, from rocks and gems to making jewelry, studying natural remedies and herbs and supplements, on up to the "weird" stuff.  She later mentioned having studied up various religions and beliefs, having friends who were Wiccan/Pagan, reading all about esoteric/metaphysical stuff, citing various authors like Gurdjieff (sp!) Oespensky (sp!) and authors that Montalk/Tom has read and recommends on his site.  In passing, in our many conversations we had over the course of the week, she gave me wisdom and advise, seeming to be like the Oracle in the Matrix, I swear, lol mentioned such things as energy vampires and people being used as vectors of attack,  (she didn't use that exact phrase, "vector of attack" but she described exactly that) which showed awareness on her part of that aspect of reality.  Turns out she frequents the same local metaphysical bookshop that we do, and had actually seen Tom before, describing him to me.  etc. etc., blah blah blah.  I mean, it was NUTS, and all because she broached the subject of "amethyst."  On Friday as we parted ways she told me she felt there was a reason we crossed paths the way we did, because what are the odds that she would have been my replacement, of all people?  ??!  She wanted to trade contact info, so I gave her my website business card - something I would never normally do with coworkers in the "real" world, I keep my woo-woo web thing separate from my working world persona - but she understood, and had even mentioned being in "two worlds" first, without yet knowing the name of my website.  She talked about how all of this is an illusion, and the weird stuff is what's real, so she has to force herself to work at these sorts of jobs, and it's like having a foot in two worlds.  I passed on Tom's website as well, writing the montalk address on the back of the card, told her to check his site out first since she'd read the more intellectual esoteric books that he talks about, and he writes about all the same stuff she was talking about.

So yeah, I mean....it was nuts. !!!   Thing is though, the day that it all happened I specifically was thinking about "amethyst" as I headed up the stairs to get to my car to go to work.  I spontaneously remembered out of nowhere that I used to have a key chain with an amethyst point on it, back in the 90s, but then it broke.  So amethyst was on my brain, then I get to work and she starts talking about amethyst, broaching the subject of it, and the rest is history.

Throw out the bait, see who bites, that's what you do when trying to find others out there like yourself....

Re: how do you meet people like us?

That's an incredible story Lyra.   I would have been blown away by that too.  Oh, wait!  She could be an agent!    LOL....

However, I only recently found out that my older cousin is into metaphysics.  That was some happy news.  I can't even remember exactly how it came about, but it was something like you and other members have said about throwing out an idea to a person and see what the response it.  I knew right away we were on the same wavelength.  Unfortunately she lives in another state so we don't see much of each other, and she doesn't have a PC at home.

Speaking of amethyst, I collect minerals myself.  I haven't bought any for quite a while, but just last night I was on ebay and bought my niece a beautiful amethyst cluster for her birthday.  She likes to look at my crystals when she comes over and mentioned amethyst a few times.

You know.....I did think that myself.  wink  I did, because in some ways the situation was a little too perfect, but there were enough things that made it seem legit, enough ways in which I could see that she was a real person out there in the world, that I dismissed the concept of her being an agent.  But, admittedly, the thought did cross my mind that very first day with the "amethyst" thing.

That always seems to be the way it goes.  hmm  We'll find those people we connect with, and there will be obstacles keeping us apart, stuff that makes it difficult to maintain any sort of regular contact.  Without sounding like some cynical pessimist, it really is like the "matrix control system" works to keep real people isolated, on their little island surrounded by sharks.

Lyra I never thought of it like that.  But it makes perfect sense, sigh....

Re: how do you meet people like us?

It's funny what you describe, because I spent a few years tossing bait in the water and just this year the sharks formed a group (I believe of wiccan/pagan origin; I deemed this from the book collection that used to be sold at the Coffee Emporium).  These are the same people who I believed were favorable to someone in search of spiritual truth. Maybe this is why some of them hung around such a spiritual group, because they were agents for darker forces. I didn't know wiccans/pagans felt the need for protection. With all the synchronistic events that occured during those years I had been observing the reactions nd the conversations that arose.  I did have many, many people that came to me at "careful" times to discuss such interesting subjects as telepathy, mind-reading, near-dear experiences, hypersensitivity to spirits, etc.  The core group is now represented by a coffee/tea shop bouncer/agent(?)(ever heard of a spiritual tea house needing a semi-fulltime self proclaimed bouncer/associate?).  He and a couple others have stalked me via "google".  Just yesterday I was reminded of their covert actions to research and track down the expressions of the poet "carefulcarpenter".  This is NOT a drama created by me to entertain, this is an assailment of my family and character in an attempt to..........?? You can help me by discerning any motives on their part which has targetted me for deserving suchattempted emotional and psychological abuse. So far I have embraced them with truth and consideration.  Each time I put my hand out with love and friendship they have ignored it for prefered escalation of accusations and ridicule. I try dearly to see good in their efforts to "enlighten" me.  They suggested an "intervention" but they could not find the visible support needed to pull it off. I willing offered to meet them face to face; they stated that they were 10 strong, but so far I have only guessed at 2-3 front agents(?). I think they are empowered and will be rewarded by the higher authority in their group if they can disuade me from my presence in the Coffee Emporium(ficticious name I use in my writings). These are real people with real agendas though. The "Coffee Emporium" is a real establishment in my mountain town.

I will warn that they are already reading this site and were quite attracted to the "Dead Series: thread.  It won't be long before you witness their approach.  From what I have seen, they do not respond to the topics per se, but find any comment they can distort, twist. turn, and interpret to ridicule me personally.  I support thr freedom of expression so I woud be the last one to ban them from their views.  I think often what we see in others is what we are blind to about ourselves.  I observe them as they observe me--this way I can better understand the uncomfortable and unrecognized part of my complete self.  I find them to be helpful in a bizarre way; they reflect the inperceivable shadow of myself that I want to observe. You actually may like their style and their Hooliganism.

Just want you to be forwarned and willing to work with them to awaken them from the bad dream I must have induced with my poetic aphorisms and free-wheeling insights.  Good draws out the evil in others as well as ourselves.  This may be a good look at the hidden side of me if they choose to bring it here.  I don't blame them so much, as the forces that drive their cause are surely perceived by their minds are just as noble as the forces that bring creative inspiration to me.

Agent Smith is the backside of the ribbon of infinite energy that is Neo.  Only through projection and inverse inner reflection can one observe the shadow.

Sorry for your despair. Since you never respond to anything positive I can sense that your psychic reaction tells a truer story.

Sophyadin,
Don't you agree that I responded very positively, with hope for the greater good of us all: we all possess the potential to be "green dot teachers?"

But first, why don't we all cite our sources to lead us all directly, with no intermediary spin, to more knowledge, love and wisdom. I informed you--in my positive manner, that Covert Metaphor practices this--He cites all of his sources, no matter what the example or message is; and he isn't even a professional healer; but as a good 'language engineer' and follower of some of the healing arts, as well as western psychology, and Neuro Linguistic Psychology, ( NLP ), he knows this is the educational furthering thing to do. I positively showed you his ethical sharing of all his learned wisdom.

I only repeated the idea the quote was "callous" which Ophiel called it. Even though I agree with Ophiel and Skind, and am definitely not a big NLP fan, especially having gone to UCSC at the time NLP was launched by Bandler, Grinder, and Gary Bateson who I took a class from, ---I didn't comment on the message, just your possible reasons in refusing to cite your source of the quote. If that is a negative value judgement to you, or another example of how I never post about anything positive, well, at least my 'encouraging you' to share the 'wisdom source' in your Gaining Wisdom project sounds pretty positive to me, and not done in any passive-agressive manner. It's definitely not one of your so-called "subtle hints" you think I use. Was it direct enough for you? Was it just my spin of how CovertMetaphor's message must only channel through you or maybe your aphoristic oracle, CC ??? Please enlighten us all on your choice in not citing your source of this provocative quote?

That is a question you should be able to answer: mask or no mask--you can leave your mask on while you give us an answer. We're waiting Kosmic MountainGoat on the shores of Lake Titikaka !!!

Maybe I will get a green dot for being so positive, fair, and direct ???

Well unless they're already registered then there's nothing they can do.  At this stage, ALL registration has to be approved by Tom/Montalk first, as already mentioned here at NR before.  People have to send him an introductory email.  It's not just open registration free-for-all.

At the risk of sounding inflammatory, I remember some of your first, earlier posts here at NR where you also described several victimization scenarios, painting yourself as the innocent, well meaning victim of mean behavior, with people who were unreceptive to your "Careful Carpenter" alternate persona.  So I have to put forth the suggestion to consider why this is a repeating pattern in your life.   What's with the pattern of being the supposed caring carpenter whose love is rejected by attackers and assailants?  Is this what's really going on?  Is it your possibly skewed perception of things, an over dramatization, despite the fact that you insist it's not?   I put forth this because you're asking for input here.  If you hadn't asked, I wouldn't pipe up.  But I always wonder about anybody who has supposed groups of people who are after them, but using weird, kind of petty 3rd density harassment tactics versus  outright hyperdimensional manipulation of time and reality, abductions, etc.  I'll see people out there in the world who aren't even anybody known or famous, people who don't even have websites or books or anything, posting on message boards about supposed nefarious groups of people who are "after them."  And then I'll look at the actual known authors and researchers who have websites and write books and are into some seriously fringe subjects, yet, have absolutely nothing of the sort happening to them.  Why is this?  Something's up, for sure, and I tend to think FRV is a big factor. If being the misunderstood, misaligned loving victim who's always being attacked appeals to somebody, then that's what they're going to continually attract until they learn the lessons surrounding it.

And actually, based on the word choices you used in this and several other threads over the past 2 years, the way you describe yourself and your actions and how they're received by others, I get the sense that you have a Jesus persecution complex.   Jesus was a carpenter who was later, well, persecuted, the misunderstood victim martyr who only wanted to spread love and caring, only to have it fall on deaf ears and be lashed out at for it.

There's also the idea of people misperceiving the events that are happening to them, due to paranoia, or other issues.  And I know this was something addressed long ago with your very first posts here at NR, I think back in 2005, when you were relaying other supposed victimization incidents that had occurred to you while on various carpentry jobs.  I remember reading your version of events and thinking that your perception of others' actions and motives may not be entirely accurate.  But if your perceptions are in fact accurate, then again, you have to maybe start questioning why this seems to be a repeating pattern in your life, why it happens to you and not others.   Just food for thought.

I know that Tom/Montalk has the right to set his own standards as "forum keeper-upper", and I do not question his thinking in this matter.  I was a temporary moderator on a forum and did much to insure that detractors of mine or any other had a fair system that governed behavior on that forum.  In the name of free personal expression the membership learned how to function within the "free-for-all" protocol.  It is not easy, but I have never used the "ignore function" myself and would give ample warning and careful consideration before banning a member.  I simple took Montalk's wise philosophy and carried it over there: "You control your response and therein lies your freedom" ~~Montalk.  I try to control my responses to leading questions and accusatory comments.

Would you refer to "Montalk" as Tom's "alternate persona", a "nickname", or "nom de plume"?

I do not take your comments and questions as anything other than excellent questions amoung many that could be addressed in regards to the thread topic.  I am sure I can be interpretted in many ways.  I mostly leave my creative expression to the viewer to decide what they see in the expressions.  Their response is under their control; they too, are empowered by their response.  I have always encouraged people to think deeply about issues, which I hope is perceivably intertwined within my provocative style.  I never intend to come across as condescending or accusatory, yet many feel this in my work.  I'm sure in many cases you are correct: I do find a repetitive response in many of my viewers, clients, and myself. I truely am not alone in this regard, for many workmen can relate to the irrational treatment we receive from the prominent in society and groups: if you have the temerity to speak out with your common sense observations you will be put down. What I have observed is in line with much of what I have wanted to learn(soul and human), this is aparently why synchronicity has been so regular and guiding on my path; so yes, my proclivity for "teaching" has consistently been annoying to a large segment of the population, and particularily irritating to a certain unconscious part of the many.

I admire your style, and see much of my "in-your-face" pc-challenging independent nature in you.  I understand why we as the spiritually inquizative can be irritating most often to those who harbor fears of self-revelation, mostly those with repressed insecurites and existential wounding.  I try not to butt heads with you or people like you, for I see too much of myself there behind the masks.  In this case I actually appreciate your command of the obvious: I may be seeing a repetitive pattern in about 10% of my clients and even higher in the general population.  This I have been fully aware of and have found, or have been given by insightful others, personal solutions to these issues.  I now have learned to shut my mouth and keep my opinions to myself when in the company of most people.  I do find those who appreciate me and I value them greatly. Amazingly I enjoy listening to those who do not agree with me, or have other perpectives foreign to my own.  I seldom look for groups of like-minded people to commune with, although i do like to commune in nature with those who recognize its vasteness and wonder; therefore I personally am fond of most of the wiccans and pagans that I know. smile

I believe this points to the crux of which the thread starter was inquiring. I sincerly hope the following discussion is about such topic rather than focusing on my style and the forced lessons I am facing--all as a consequence of me throwing ample "bait" out and observing what and who responds, how they respond, and how objective they can be when responding.  I have welcomed those who are strong-willed enough to "teach" me, and I have listened even more "carefully" to those who feel entitled to punish me for the purpose of teaching me valuable "lessons" about abuse. It is often said that the abused become the abusers.  I am curious to understand more about this "authority" and what forces are behind it.  The most egregious efforts and despicable actions in human history have been perpetrated by righteous thinking people empowered by the authority to deliver punishment on those the group determined as offensive and blameworthy.

I hope this can be a civil discussion about discovering other like-minds with a deep spiritual intuition and not the focus on why I personally find many aparent self-judged spirtual people less than willing to share deep thoughts with "unlike minds". I would like to ask you and the others in the thread to attempt to comment on what "like-minded" means to you?

It appears that Noble Realms is a rare venue where such enlightening conversations can come from such a diverse group of thought(full) individuals without egos being hurt or tempers inflamed.  I pay respect to Montalk and yourself for your patience and for your curiosity in asking the tough questions that lead us ever closer to the unknown mystery we seek.

I would like to add an NR link to a thread that adds further information regarding similar "stories of persecution" you may be refering to, for those new members here who might like some context to your reference. This post is dated about two months after I joined in 2006 in the thread "Emotional freedom" and the thread is well worth reading through to understand the context of my posting:

Thanks Tit!! wink

This subject has been the theme of my life lately and I spend probably waaaaay too much time thinking about it.

I want to add to the discussion that I'm saddened to feel the need to pull away from a group of really terrific caring folks - I'm speaking now of that new agey forum I mentioned earlier.  When one is in need or pain they close a circle of love and healing to support them.  I love that about the group.

Where we part ways is in the area of commitment to health.

And it is a bit cultish in that the site owner is slavishly supported even during times her emotions get the better of her.  Any honest criticism of any member held in high regard is seen as betrayal.

Yikes!!

I too, had to pull away from a group that I found wonderful support and cyber-friendship. I haven't posted there, or even read threads, since last january. The synchronicity of your reference of Don Juan is remarkable. Just yesterday a friend from that board emailed me to ask what i was up to. He refered to me as his Don Juan--as he called me a yaqui mystic a year ago. He is now writing a book on spiritual beliefs. I helped him along his path at a time after his mother died. On the board we would do creative dialog in poetic format. Others joined in and we had a great bit of fun. Many on the board had been offended a year earlier when I posted "peace and love" original poetry and original philosophic aphorisms on the site. It is a  site  owned by a celebrity and i was repremanded by many for speaking in words that some deemed offensive. I was later banned after a three month poetry project which had acummulatively predicted the death of a famous comedian: Bob Hope. I called the series "The Road to Santa Cruz". In it I wove in the characters of the board and created a fun play. Not everyone understood what the bigger picture was and I think I scared many people. I did not intend to do more than to document my spiritual journey with poetry. My writing did not seem to offend everyone, yet it only took a small group of complainers to get a person banned. Usually the offended ones would complain to the moderator or start a fight and blame the victim--after the victim could no longer defend themselves. Common practice on many sites, I'm sure.

Those who seemed not to understand the humor and creative aspects were aparently offended by the original work that flowed out onto the board. After my banning and "tar and feathering" I became much more aware of the "cult" dynamics that exist on many boards.  This friend recognized over a year later, when I rejoined under "titmouse_" , that I had originally come for purposes of expanding the awareness of other posters.  My friend took the lead and we went back into creative fun and sponteneity.  We had great fun and others joined in. I am not sure if the "cult" had much power by that time and I was not banned again. In order to effectively ban me the celebrity wiped out the entire site. She responded to an email after an in-person request after a concert to return to the community. In later comments on the board she justified her decisions with untruths. In the case of a celebrity it would be fruitless to even try to defend one's rights to speak on their board.  A famous voice who speaks for individual expression and artistic freedoms was not so charitable with a poet that she found offensive. I believe what she found offensive was the truth in my philosophies that challenged the paradigms or her fan base.  Her fans are generally those who seek security in the protection of a group lead by a dictator of sorts. As an independent and free soul I represented a example of thought that brought to light the responsibility of self accountability.

"Small fish swim in schools; the great white shark swims alone"

I understand how uncomfortable some people are when you speak from a truthful perspective. I never intend to do more than grow. My friend has winessed  the phenomena that I drew from, and found my spirit to be honest and loving. He now is writing a book about spirituality, whereas I continue to  research my own inner world. I plan to write a childrens book relating some of the miraculous events and insights I have gained. I take some heat at the local coffee emporium where we daily talk philosophy and spirituality. Haven't been kicked out yet, so my pursuit of truth continues. i plan to end it this month, although I will continue to journal my life experiences for my benefit. If I am truely a yaqui mystic I will gladly share my experience later in other books.

For example: yesterday I had about 5-6 rather interesting psychic events and have talked about them today with others. I predicted synchronicity a few times during my journey and have documented numerous examples on message boards.  I wouldn't think that spiritual people would be offended by truths and empirical evidence. I do think that the "powers that be" are nervous about maintaining the hierachal structure based on material accumulation.

I will warn that they are already reading this site and were quite attracted to the "Dead Series: thread.  It won't be long before you witness their approach.

Well unless they're already registered then there's nothing they can do.  At this stage, ALL registration has to be approved by Tom/Montalk first, as already mentioned here at NR before.  People have to send him an introductory email.  It's not just open registration free-for-all.

The point I was making was that you don't have to worry about their approach, because they're not going to be able to become members of the forum without going through Montalk first, via an introductory email.  So, they can approach all they want, but all they're going to be able to do is read.  They won't be able to post and be the invading barbarian horde.

Would you refer to "Montalk" as Tom's "alternate persona", a "nickname", or "nom de plume"?

Nom de Plume.   An alternate persona is a character one creates and may even refer to it in the third person............as if it were a separate identity.  Tom doesn't refer to Montalk as if "Montalk" were somebody else outside of himself, nor invent quotes that he attributes to that name.  (and I'm not criticizing you for doing that, although it probably comes across that way.  I think a lot of your quotes are meaningful.)  It's also not a nickname, as nobody in life actually calls him that.  wink So it's a pen name, the name that articles are written under.

But in the future, should you have a question pertaining to Tom, kindly be an adult...and ask Tom himself.

Consider your approach and the way in which you choose to "teach."  Have the people on the receiving end of your "proclivity to teach" asked for it?  Or is it unsolicited? If it's unsolicited, is it preachy, the kind of approach that would put people on the defensive?  Or is it the better method of throwing out some bait and seeing who bites?..............while respecting the fact that many probably won't?   When you choose to try to teach people, do you do so at appropriate times?  And most important - how are you coming across to them?  This is the hardest one to answer, because it's very difficult to know how other people see us.  I know that the people that I've perceived as being creepy or "off" certainly didn't see themselves as being that way, otherwise they would have behaved differently.   We all have the way in which we'd like to view ourselves, but, it may not be accurate.  (See "I Heart Huckabees" for a good example of this.  The character played by Jude Law always goes around telling the same Shania Twain personal anecdote, over and over and over, until the Existential Detectives, played by Lily Tomlin and Dustin Hoffman, tape record over a dozen instances of him repeatedly telling the same anecdote to different people in different situations, playing it back to him.  Suddenly he hears himself the way others hear him.  A boring cad always telling the same silly story to anybody who'll listen, versus the witty, admired, powerful, well liked guy that he viewed himself as in his mind.)   So, that's something to consider.  This is something I myself have been pondering due to a recent personality clash with one particular woman at my last temp job.  I tried a novel exercise...............I put myself in her shoes with what I knew about her personality, and viewed myself through her eyes.   It was quite eye opening.  Suddenly the problem wasn't completely all her.  It was a two way street in the sense that I had my personality and way of doing things and viewing things, and she had hers, and it clashed.  Sometimes her responses were very different from how I myself would be, not what I would do, but, I had a better understanding for why the clash was happening in the first place.

All I can say is, you're doing at least something to bring part of this on.  How are these people in your life in the first place? How did that happen?  Once they became intertwined into your realm, how was it that they were allowed to remain there?   And again, what might you be doing on your end to inflame the situation, even inadvertently?  How are you perceived by others?

I now have learned to shut my mouth and keep my opinions to myself when in the company of most people.

Again, consider the way in which you're doling out your opinions.  Is it at appropriate times in appropriate situations?  Is it unsolicited, or did they ask you?  If it's unsolicited, is it an approach that puts people on the defensive, or is it the "bait and hope" or tread cautiously approaches?
